Abstract Layered oxychalcogenide Sr 2 ZnCu (S 1- x Se ) O compounds were synthesized via a solid-state reaction. Density functional theory calculations indicate different valence band maximum, was composed of Cu 3 d –Se 4 p , while S dominated by the Zn –O hybrid orbital. Band gap decreased as Se-containing is increasing, from 2.5 eV to 2.2 eV. In contrast, electrical conductivity Se-substituted samples considerably increased 10 −3 cm −1 at = 0 0.25, and almost same 1. Based on this feature, can be applied transparent conductor material.
